Imran Khan challenged the action of contempt election commission and jail trial

Lahore: Founder and Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has challenged the actions of the Election Commission and the jail trial in the Lahore High Court.

Former Prime Minister Salman Akram Raja and Barrister Samir Khosa, on behalf of Imran Khan, filed a petition in the Lahore High Court through mediation, in which the federal government, the Election Commission, and the superintendent of Adiala Jail have been made respondents.

The petition asserts that the Election Commission has unlawfully initiated proceedings of contempt against the Election Commission. The Election Commission does not have the authority to take action on contempt; they have made an illegal decision in the case of the jail trial.

In the application submitted by Imran Khan, it is further stated that the secret trial in jail violates Article 4 of the Constitution. The Election Commission has set December 13 as the date for individual criminal proceedings in jail. The Lahore High Court has declared the decision to conduct a jail trial as null and void. The court should issue an order for an open and fair trial and restrain individual criminal proceedings through the secret trial until the final decision of the petition.
