World Cup 2023 Defeat: Election Commission notice to Rahul Gandhi for calling Modi Panoti

“New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has issued a notice to opposition leader and Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi, solely for mentioning that he was present in the stadium to watch Prime Minister Modi’s embarrassing defeat at the hands of Australia in the World Cup 2023 final.

According to Indian media, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a gathering, humorously remarked that although the Indian team was winning every match in the tournament, they lost in the final, prompting him to attend the match to witness Prime Minister Modi’s presence.

BJP members in the assembly filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that Rahul Gandhi also stated in his speech that PM does not stand for Prime Minister but rather for ‘Pannoti Modi.’ In response, the Election Commission has sent a notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, giving him until the end of the week to respond, following the principles and guidelines of the electoral code of conduct.

It is worth noting that the Model Code of Conduct introduced by the Modi government prohibits political leaders from making unverified allegations against their opponents. Earlier, Rahul Gandhi’s membership was suspended and his participation in electoral rallies was restricted for criticizing Modi, but the Supreme Court reinstated him four months later.

After his reinstatement, Rahul Gandhi successfully formed the electoral alliance ‘India’ with nearly three dozen opposition parties against the Modi government’s efforts to somehow sideline him from politics before the elections.”
