Southgate targets No. 1 ranking for England

LONDON: Gareth Southgate Aims to Propel England to Top FIFA Ranking

Gareth Southgate is determined to elevate England to the pinnacle of FIFA’s world rankings, emphasizing the need for precision as they approach the conclusion of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

Despite their lackluster 2-0 win against Malta, England is poised to be among the top seeds in the upcoming draw for the finals in Germany.

Southgate urged his team to maintain a high level of performance, especially in their upcoming match against North Macedonia. With aspirations to secure the number one spot, Southgate emphasized the importance of consistency and disciplined behavior on and off the pitch. England currently sits fourth in the FIFA rankings, with the aim of surpassing World Cup winners Argentina, second-placed France, and third-placed Brazil.

However, their final camp of the year has faced disruptions, with several players withdrawing due to injuries and other issues, including Kieran Trippier’s departure for personal reasons and Jarrod Bowen’s exit due to injury on Sunday.
