Streamlined Registration Process: A Step-by-Step Guide for Temporary Mobile Registration

The Ministry of Information Technology and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have introduced a novel mobile registration system specifically tailored for Overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals visiting the country.

According to the PTA, individuals falling within this category can utilize their personal mobile phones in Pakistan without being subject to any taxation or duties for a period of 120 days from their arrival date in the country.

An official announcement from the PTA highlighted that those interested in availing this provision should visit the designated link at https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs . Upon accessing the site, users need to create an account, selecting the ‘Overseas Pakistanis and Foreign Citizens’ category, and proceed to register their mobile phone.

This initiative traces its roots back to the tenure of former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, initially implemented to grant free usage privileges to overseas Pakistanis and foreign nationals for a 120-day period without the imposition of customs duties.

To benefit from this arrangement, individuals in this category will be required to reapply for the free registration facility each time they arrive in Pakistan.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to the registration process:

1. Create an Account: Sign up and create an account by providing necessary details.
2. Choose Temporary Registration: Select the Temporary Registration option and proceed with the registration process.
3. Submit Personal Details: Fill out the registration form with accurate personal details, including a password, aligning them with the information used during immigration.
4. Verification: Upon submission, users will receive an email and SMS for verification. Activate your account by following the link provided in the SMS/Mail.
5. Login and Declaration: Log in to the portal with your credentials, where you will encounter a declaration form. Agree to the Terms & Conditions and select ‘Temporary Registration for Overseas Pakistanis/Foreign Nationals.’
6. Enter Details: Provide necessary information, including ID card number or Passport number, entry and departure dates, and mobile network operator.
7. Generate OTP: Submit the form to generate a six-digit OTP. Enter this OTP in the designated section to activate your account successfully.

This streamlined process ensures a quick and efficient temporary registration, enabling individuals to stay connected during their visit without the burden of additional taxes.
