Banning School Excursions Beyond Lahore: DC’s Permission Required

Restrictions on City Schools’ Out-of-Town Excursions: Approval Required from Deputy Commissioner or DEA Chairman

The Lahore District Education Authority (DEA) has recently imposed a ban on recreational trips organized by public and private schools within the city. The prohibition extends to journeys outside Lahore, requiring explicit permission from either the deputy commissioner or the DEA chairman.

This directive comes in the aftermath of a tragic incident that occurred two days ago, involving a school bus from Sheikhupura. The bus was involved in an accident, plunging into a ravine in the scenic Shahdara area of Islamabad. The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of a teacher’s life, while 20 students sustained injuries.

In response to this unfortunate event, the district education authority in Lahore has issued a notification to all schools, formalizing the restriction on recreational trips. Now, schools are mandated to obtain approval from the deputy commissioner or the DEA chairman before organizing any excursions beyond the city limits.

Following a tragic incident during a recreational trip in Sheikhupura, where a school bus veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in Islamabad’s Shahdara area, the Lahore District Education Authority (DEA) has taken immediate action. For all future recreational travels, schools are now required to obtain permission from the relevant deputy commissioner or the head of the DEA. This measure aims to prevent such unfortunate incidents and prioritize the safety of both students and teachers.

The recent accident involved a school bus carrying 39 students during a trip. Regrettably, a teacher lost their life, and more than 20 children sustained injuries. The injured students were promptly transported to Polyclinic Hospital, with reports indicating that the condition of five children remains critical. In light of this incident, the notification emphasizes that strict actions will be taken against school administrations found organizing recreational trips without obtaining proper permission, underscoring the commitment to safeguarding the well-being of students and staff.
