A Cinematic Journey Unveiled: “Big B Forever” – Amitabh Bachchan’s Retrospective at France’s 3 Continents Festival

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan’s cinematic journey is set to be celebrated at the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France, through a captivating nine-film retrospective titled ‘Amitabh Bachchan, Big B Forever.’ The showcase will feature timeless classics like ‘Sholay,’ ‘Deewar,’ ‘Don,’ ‘Kabhie Kabhie,’ and ‘Amar Akbar Anthony.’

The festival, scheduled from November 24 to December 3, will highlight the enduring impact of Amitabh Bachchan, often referred to as the “king” of Indian cinema. The retrospective, co-presented by the Film Heritage Foundation, will explore the works of renowned directors such as Yash Chopra, Ramesh Sippy, Manmohan Desai, and Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

“Amitabh Bachchan is more than an actor: he’s a living legend whose face has been plastered on the walls of every street in the Indian subcontinent for over half a century, keeping his legend alive,” stated the festival’s website.

Expressing his pleasure, Bachchan acknowledged the Film Heritage Foundation’s effort to bring classic Indian films back to the big screen. “I hope that the festival audience will enjoy the selection of films that continue to give so much joy to viewers half a century since they were made,” said the legendary actor.

Jérôme Baron, the artistic director of Festival Des 3 Continents, described Amitabh Bachchan as the “living and iconic embodiment of a link between the past and present of popular Hindi cinema.” He praised Bachchan as a “unique performer” and noted his significance in the history of cinema.

The showcased films include ‘Abhimaan’ (1973), ‘Sholay’ (1975), ‘Deewar’ (1975), ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ (1976), ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ (1977), ‘Trishul’ (1978), ‘Don’ (1978), ‘Kaala Patthar’ (1979), and ‘Satte Pe Satta’ (1982).

Amitabh Bachchan’s illustrious career, spanning five decades, continues to influence and captivate audiences worldwide. This retrospective at the Festival des 3 Continents is a testament to his iconic status in the realm of cinema.
